More than 85 years of DAF history

DAF’s roots go back to 1928, when the brothers Hub and Wim van Doorne laid the foundation for what currently is DAF Trucks. What started as a small engineering business and blacksmith workshop, developed into the fastest growing truck manufacturer in Europe.

Since 1996, DAF is part of PACCAR, a global technology leader in the design, manufacture and customer support of Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF trucks. PACCAR also provides financial services and information technology and distributes truck parts to its principal business.

Attention to the environment as a matter of course

Reduction of environmental impact

We are continuously working on further reducing the environmental impact of our activities. For instance, on our Eindhoven premises water from a nearby canal is used for cooling our production installations instead of high quality drinking water. And in our new state-of-the-art engine testing lab, advanced electrical engine brakes are used. These generate enough electricity to provide up to 20% of the demand of our factories in Eindhoven. Both the production facilities in The Netherlands and Belgium meet ‘zero waste to landfill’: no waste is disposed to landfill, but instead it is further processed.

EcoDesign
Minimizing the environmental impact of our products is an integrated part of our development process. We call this ‘EcoDesign’. Our EcoDesign team introduces ’green’ options during the development of products and components: technical possibilities for minimizing environmental impact. EcoDesign also stands for Ecology + Economy. This means that DAF not only looks for solutions that are good for the environment but that also further improve the efficiency of the truck.

Hybrid vehicles

DAF was one of the first European truck manufacturers that started production of its hybrid distribution truck. The DAF LF Hybrid uses a parallel diesel/electric hybrid system, where the truck is driven by the diesel engine, the electric engine or a combination of both. Through DAF hybrid technology savings in fuel consumption and therefore CO₂ emissions of up to 20% can be achieved, depending on the application.

We are striving towards an ever-increasing efficiency of our products, even lower emissions of noise and harmful exhaust gases, reduced maintenance and even better recycling possibilities. This is a never-ending race. We will continue to focus on optimizing our care for the environment even further. Our customers, staff and society are entitled to expect this from us

A quality organisation behind a quality product

DAF manufactures its industry-leading trucks in world class facilities in Eindhoven (The Netherlands), Westerlo (Belgium), Leyland (United Kingdom) and Ponta Grossa (Brasil). DAF's engine factory, component plant, press shop and final assembly line for CF and XF models are located in Eindhoven. Axles and cabins are produced in Westerlo. Leyland Trucks (a PACCAR company) produces the company's LF series of light and medium duty trucks, as well as CF and XF verhicles. DAF products are sold and serviced by a network of over one thousand independent dealer locations throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa, South America, Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

The latest production technologies at DAF Trucks

DAF utilizes the innovative PACCAR Production System (PPS) in its manufacturing operations. in DAF's engine factory, employees receive standardized work instructions on PC workstations. Robots are used to enhance assembly accuracy and factory ergonomics. At DAF's components factory skilled workers use advanced welding robots and laser cutting machines to produce a wide range of cab, chassis and axle parts. Ultramodern CNC-controlled machines and welding robots have been installed at the Westerlo cab and axle factory to continuously improve quality. The Leyland assembly plant is a highly modern facility producing the DAF LF series, as well as CF and XF models.

Within the PACCAR Production System, there is a continuous effort to do everything right the first time, without waste of energy and materials and with the best quality. Environmental Leadership

DAF is an environmental leader, offering a full range of fuel efficient and ultra clean diesel engines, including a full range of new engines meeting the stringent Euro 6 emission standard. DAF was among the first European truck manufacturers to comply with the ISO 14001 standard for environmental care. All production facilities have achieved ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’.
